I hope this inquiry finds you safe and well. It has been several days since I have seen you in the notes. However, the vacuum of Substack space seems to keep some notes churning in the void without ever appearing. Please know that viewers as myself wish you all the best as you deal with life in general. Sincerely, Ken Beyer
You provided a great description of dystopian stories and how to go about creating them. Wonderful details on what’s needed to craft these stories. One of my favorites is Wake of War by ZacTopping. It’s about a second American Civil War and the story follows key characters on both sides of the conflict. One thing Zac Topping did extremely well was how empathetic he was in portraying each of the opposing characters. I rooted for both sides at once and at the end there were no clear winners. Another book by Omar El Akkad was also about another American Civil War and he explored both sides of the conflict. Both are dystopian books and fine examples of the nuances you described in your article. Thank you.
